The activity expands the learners’ therapeutic options for depression management, directly aligning with their professional responsibility and potential scope for treating complex psychiatric patient cases.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for an audience of Physicians, Physician Associates, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Critique the limitations of the conventional psychopharmacological model for depression
  • Describe the key pathophysiological drivers of depression from a functional medicine perspective, including nutritional deficiencies, inflammation and metabolic abnormalities
  • Select appropriate functional lab tests to identify underlying root causes of depression
  • Formulate a personalized, integrative treatment plan for depression that incorporates targeted nutritional supplementation and lifestyle interventions
  • Assess the impact of common clinical scenarios on nutrient status and mood

Criteria for Success
To obtain a certificate of completion, a score of 70% or better on the post-test is required. James Greenblatt, MD

Dr. James Greenblatt, MD is a globally recognized pioneer in functional and integrative psychiatry with over 30 years of clinical experience. He has dedicated his career to transforming the treatment of mental health disorders through precision-based approaches that integrate laboratory testing, nutritional interventions, and root-cause analysis. Dr. Greenblatt earned his medical degree and completed a psychiatry residency at George Washington University, and pursued a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Johns Hopkins Medical School.

A prolific author, Dr. Greenblatt has written eight books, including the bestseller Finally Focused: The Breakthrough Natural Treatment Plan for ADHD. He serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine. Previously, he served as Chief Medical Officer for Walden Behavioral Care/Monte Nido, a national mental health organization specializing in eating disorders.

Anoushirvan (Abe) Adel, MD

Anoushirvan (Abe) Adel, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in adult and geriatric psychiatry. After graduating from medical school, he completed residency at Icahn School of medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and subsequently became certified in geriatric psychiatry. He is also board-certified by Royal College of physician and Surgeons of Canada in both General Adult and geriatric psychiatry.

He was the clinical director at Sharpe (Psychiatric) Hospital in West Virginia for 11 years overseeing clinical, teaching and research activities at that center. He was a faculty member at West Virginia University Department of Psychiatry during the same period. He has over 35 years of experience in inpatient, outpatient, emergency psychiatry as well as at various nursing homes. In addition, he is also a member of the ECT service at his current hospital Peterborough regional health center, where he is currently practicing. In addition, he has a private practice primarily focusing on delivering integrative psychiatric care.

Umar Latif, MD, DFAPA

Umar Latif, MD is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a triple board-certified psychiatrist in General Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. A George W. Bush Institute Scholar, selected for the Stand-To Veteran Leadership program, he has been recognized for his work improving mental health outcomes for veterans. Dr. Latif is a Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M School of Medicine.

Dr. Latif serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Enterhealth, a premier residential and outpatient dual diagnosis center in North Texas. He is also the Medical Director of his private practice, The Noesis Clinic, an adult and geriatric outpatient private practice that specializes in early detection of Alzheimer’s dementia and TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) treatment. Employing a functional and integrative psychiatry approach to promote brain health and optimize outcomes, Dr. Latif publishes a blog Psychiatry 3.0, a modern mental health newsletter reimagining what care can—and should—look like for patients and clinicians alike.

The November 2025 training begins November 1, 2025. Enrollment grants access to all training curriculum for 6 months from program start date. This training is designed for clinicians and mental health providers. All refunds must be requested within seven (7) days of enrollment. In order to qualify for a refund, learners must have progressed through less than 10% of the educational content in question. All refunds will be processed minus a 10% transaction fee.
