The Psychiatry Redefined Functional Medicine for Eating Disorders Training
Both binge eating disorder and anorexia stem from fundamental and unique imbalances in biochemistry and nutrition. Treating eating disorders requires a thorough approach to help patients regain a healthy relationship with food–an approach that addresses all genetic, psychosocial, or environmental circumstances. This training provides a comprehensive system of care for anorexia by addressing malnutrition, and draws upon the revolutionary New Hope Model for binge eating disorder. These targeted interventions address biologic vulnerabilities and key vitamin/mineral deficiencies, support the gut-brain axis, and restore neurotransmitter functioning. Step-by-step, he’ll instruct you on how to create personalized patient treatment plans that target the biochemical pathways regulating appetite, and resolve the unique imbalances that perpetuate hunger and starvation.

“This training has been an incredible and eye opening opportunity for me to understand the biology behind eating disorders. Unfortunately this information is not standard in typical training programs for eating disorder ‘specialists’ — but absolutely NEEDS TO BE! Hopefully we can be the ones to change mental health CARE thanks to Dr. Greenblatt!”

Functional & Integrative Medicine for Anorexia Nervosa
(4 CME credits)
This 3-module course, presented by Dr. James Greenblatt, introduces a functional medicine model for anorexia nervosa (AN) treatment and recovery, in which the concept of anorexia nervosa is the result of a complex and biologically-mediated interplay between environmental, psychosocial, and metabolic factors is explored. Research supporting associations between metabolic abnormalities, dyslipidemia, micronutrient imbalances, and systemic inflammation will be objectively reviewed, illuminating critical treatment targets for today’s functional psychiatry practice and providing an empirically validated blueprint for personalized interventions. Upon completion, trainees will be able to substantiate the clinical utility of a functional medicine approach for anorexia nervosa, and safely incorporate evidence-based treatment strategies into existing therapeutic models to maximize patient outcomes.
Functional Medicine for Binge Eating Disorder Course
This two-module online course serves introduces Dr. Greenblatt’s breakthrough New Hope Model for BED patients. The New Hope Model is the cornerstone for the training, and teaches you how to identify imbalances in the brain, assess and treat via lab testing, and correct deficiencies and excesses through nutritional supplementation and augmentation. You’ll learn how the gut-brain connection and microbiome influence eating behaviors, along with how and what medications fit into treatment for each patient.
